Pleasanton annual festival primes poets
Day of workshops, readings, contests focuses on local arts

Friday, January 31, 2003

Got something to say in a rhyming, lyrical way? Then get your entry to the second Pleasanton Poetry and Arts Festival by Saturday. Sponsored by the Pleasanton Cultural Arts Council and the city of Pleasanton, the festival takes place March 29. The early registration fee is $65. After Saturday, it's $80. To register, visit http://www.pleasantonarts.org/ and click on Poetry and Arts Festival or call Charlene Villella at (925) 931-5350. The daylong festival at the CarrAmerica Conference Center, 4400 Rosewood Drive, in Pleasanton will feature poetry workshops for adults and youth, an adult fiction workshop, readings, a poetry contest and awards ceremony, book signings and a banquet.

Participants will be eligible to win nearly $1,200 in prizes for original poetry submitted to the poetry contest. Age categories are: youth ages 4-8, youth 9-13, youth 14-17 and adult 18 and over.

The Poetry and Arts Festival is one of several Pleasanton Cultural Arts Council "Focus Events" this season. The city of Pleasanton provides funding for the events, whose purpose is to enhance the visibility of local arts groups and augment their outreach efforts.
